Baltimore Ravens first week of training camp in Westminster; Gaither and Foxworth injuries

July 30, 2010

Are you ready for some football?!

Fans all over the Baltimore region are more than ready after a depressing season thus far from the Baltimore Orioles who have only 32 wins (the O’s also recently hired ESPN analyst Buck Showalter as their manager: check their game August3 for his first game).

But Monday, July 26 marked the first day for the Ravens players minus the veterans to report, and Wednesday July 28 was the first day all players reported to training camp in Westminster, Md. at McDaniel College.

Tuesday, the first day for fans and media to check out the players practice, produced a smaller crowd of about 200 people coming out to see the new players and to get autographs—if you were under the age of 15 that is.

The players on Tuesday seemed at ease and comfortable as they threw the ball around and ran through a few plays as they prepared for the upcoming season.

Friday, July 30 was the first day all players were at McDaniel College that the sessions were open to the public and it was reported that over 11 thousand fans were in attendance at the small private college in Westminster.

A lot of buzz on two players who both once played together at the University of Maryland at Friday’s practice.

Cornerback Dominique Foxworth, who started in all 16 games suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury during a non-contact drill.  How will that affect the defense that recently lost its star safety Ed Reed for six games and its first round draft pick, outside linebacker Sergio Kindle?

There were also rumors that offensive tackle Jared Gaither suffered a back injury as he was carted off the field during practice earlier today, but was later announced it was just cramps.

Check back later for more updates from Westminster on the Ravens training camp until their first opening pre-season game against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday August 12 at 8 p.m. E.T.
