Ravens old Defensive coach won’t be fined by NFL for finger gesture

February 4, 2010

At a MMA event in Miami on Saturday night, old defensive coach for Baltimore, Rex Ryan, was caught with his fingers waving…and no, it was not in a friendly hello.

Ryan, the New York Jets head coach for the past season, was caught giving the middle finger to a couple of Miami fans who were taunting him about his team.

He flipped them the bird…and thank you technology, anyone with a computer or cell phone saw this gesture within minutes as it was captured by someone’s camera cellphone.

Ryan was quoted to the Jets Pro Bowl contingent after they lost to Indy in the championship game: “You represent yourself and you also represent the Jets and outwork everybody there. Just show them what the Jets are all about.”

I guess he failed to listen to his own advice. Ryan has expressed remorse, calling his action “stupid and inappropriate.”

But,  it was not without penalty. The Jets organization fined Ryan $50,000 for his actions.

He was lucky it ended there and the NFL chose to not penalize him further, despite Tennessee Titans owner, Bud Adams, being fined $250,000 in 2009 for the same gesture. The commissioner, Roger Goodell, stated that was because Ryan was at a non-NFL event.

Personally, Rex Ryan, you are more than welcome to flip me off if you want to shell out another $50,000 and send it directly to me. All these penalties in the NFL haven gotten out of control. Just good to know that Baltimore wasn’t the culprit of a hefty fine this time around.
